An estimated 14.6 million cosmetic surgery procedures were performed in the United States during 2012, and it is not uncommon for people to have more than one per lifetime, or per year. Cosmetic surgery, also known as plastic surgery, is the correction and/or restoration of one’s bones or tissues in order to produce a specific desired appearance. Some of the most common cosmetic corrections occur in the form of rhinoplasty and Botox injections.
Botox treatments have been very popular in the 21st century, with an estimated $1.8 billion dollars spent on skin rejuvenation procedures in the United States in 2012. Botox clinics generally use the botulinum toxin to either treat certain muscular conditions and to cosmetically remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the facial muscles.
Is it safe? For those who haven’t had a Botox treatment, it is generally because there is an ignorance as to whether or not the treatment is harmful to our health. Generally, there are no side effects, but some people will experience some physical change.
- Transient numbness
- Headache
- Mild nausea
- Bleeding
Generally, many people are happy with the treatment they’ve undergone. The other popular cosmetic surgery is a rhinoplasty. What is rhinoplasty? This procedure deals with correcting one’s nose in order to obtain a certain look. The correction can be anything from filling in depressions in the nose to smoothing the bridge. There are two types of rhinoplasty: open and closed, which rhinoplasty surgeons will perform based on what appearance is wanted.
An estimated 243,000 Americans underwent rhinoplasty procedures in the United States during 2012, a majority asking for wide nose rhinoplasty. This cosmetic correction narrows the nostrils as well as the nasal bridge in order to make a more streamline appearance to the face and direct attention more towards one’s eyes. This procedure, on average, costs $4,545.
Botox clinics and rhinoplasty surgeons are hot commodities these days, and it could be worth looking into cosmetic surgery if you have experienced any facial damage due to an accident, have a birth defect, or are simply seeking some more self-confidence.
