If you’ve been following fashion trends in recent years, you’ve seen camo make an appearance in many unexpected places. We’ve seen it one the runway with fashion icons such as Michael Kors and Christopher Kane, and even pink camo fabric makes an appearance in haute couture. But aside from the traditional camo print cargo pants, what are some unusual places we’re seeing the camo trend in fashions these days?
1. Wear camo to the prom. The introduction of camo clothing into civilian fashion started in the late 1960’s and early 70’s when soldiers returned home from Vietnam, many of them wearing their military fatigues in protest to the war. What started out as a protest over 40 years ago has evolved into the latest in formal attire, with camo prom dresses, camo formal suit jackets and even the occasional camo wedding dress as accepted formal attire.
2. Flaunt your beachside camo. American women love swimwear, spending an average of $8 million annually in this category. You don’t have to look far to find seaside trends in camo bathing suits for women. Having a hard time finding the perfect bikini in pink camo fabric? You can find many of the best bathing suits online.
3. Chic camo accessories. Celebrities everywhere have been snapped swinging camo purses and handbags. Camo purses, or even a camo backpack, are great ways to flash a little bit of that trendy print without looking like you’re going on your dad’s hunting trip.
4. Don’t forget the little ones! Yes, it’s true, even babies need fashion statements. You can find everything from baby camo clothes to baby camo bedding, designed in either blue or pink camo fabric. And kid’s camouflage clothing—oh yes!
5. Sleep soundly in style. Camouflage bedding—who would expect it? Bring a little style and originality to the bedroom with a camo bedding set. Camo bed sheets also make great housewarming gifts for your fashion-forward friends, whether they like the traditional army camouflage bedding, or they prefer something in a stylish pink camo fabric.
Why is camo all the rage? Maybe it has something to do with honoring the thousands of American men and women in uniform. Or maybe it has something to do with popular TV shows, such as the 2013 premier of Duck Dynasty, which drew in a record 11.8 million viewers. We’ll probably never know what’s at the bottom of this fashion trend, but one thing’s for sure. It’s time to throw on your pink camo skirt and rock n’ roll!
