Many women in the United States treat themselves to skin care and spa services. While this is due, in part, to an increased focus on wellness, more than 179 million Americans visited spas in 2016 alone. On average, however, women spend about $144.00 every year on cosmetics and other beauty products.
While each woman will usually have her own definition of what she considers a beauty product, a Dove survey revealed some interesting commentary. This world-wide survey found that just four percent of the participating women considered themselves to be beautiful. Seven out of every ten women did agree, however, that a “beauty product” could be anything that would increase their confidence.
In order to boost their confidence and improve their self-image, many women turn to cosmetics. The results of a survey showed that 82% of the women that wore makeup claimed that this increased their feelings of confidence. In order to improve their self-image, 86% of the women in the survey wore makeup.
One of the reasons many women may choose to wear makeup is due to the visible signs of their skin aging. Most of this is due to sun exposure and not wearing the recommended amount or level of sunscreen. The Skin Cancer Foundation reported that over 90% of the common changes to a woman’s skin were due to sun exposure. Sunspots, in particular, can begin to appear when women are in their 20s. For some individuals, however, sunspots may not be as noticeable until they’re in their 30s and 40s.
In addition to wearing makeup and sunscreen, there are a variety of treatments available to address a different facial issues. Chemical peels, dermaplaning, and microdermabrasion are just a few of these. Botox is also a popular skin care service for toning the skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
If you’ve noticed sun spots or other signs of aging, isn’t it time you treated yourself to a day at the spa When you’re at the spa, your aesthetician will evaluate your skin and make treatment and skin care recommendations. While you may still enjoy wearing makeup, just imagine how much more confident you’ll feel when you take better care of yourself and your skin.
