Why Use Ecigs A Guide to Electronic Cigarettes and the Vaping Community

Many people, especially those who are longtime cigarette smokers, may be curious about rechargeable electronic cigarettes, better known as ecigs or vapor cigarettes. Both those who have tried to quit and those who might be reluctant to give up the habit, however, might wonder, “Why use ecigs in the first place?” Some of this confusion may stem from misinformation, and others may not want to make the investment in an rechargeable vapor pen, as they’re sometimes called.

So why use ecigs? For one, they do not contain the harmful chemicals that cigarettes have. Although research into ensuring the safety of ecig users is ongoing, the general makeup of the vapor cartridges includes the same types of liquid. The liquid, sometimes called e-liquid, contains propylene glycol, glycerin, nicotine, and flavors that can range from candy to coffee and more; some mixtures do not contain nicotine.

Users of ecigs often call the act vaping and are part of the vaping community. What is vaping? Vaping refers to the act of puffing on a vapor cigarette. It looks just like smoking a cigarette, only the vapes release a vapor (or mist, technically) that looks like cigarette smoke. However, these vapors do not have the heavy scent of actual cigarette smoke and can be used indoors and in public in some cases.

The vaping community refers to groups of vaping advocates, who often hold meetups and conventions that pertain to vaping and ecig topics. Some who are in the vaping community are known as cloud chasers, who modify or create their own vapor pens that put out larger and thicker vapor clouds. However, it is worth noting that this isn’t the majority of ecig users and the safety of this practice is a topic for debate among many vapers.

In terms of why use ecigs as opposed to regular cigarettes, much of the reasoning can stem from choice for some users. There are so many colors and flavors of ecig that they don’t even have to look or taste like a traditional tobacco cigarette. One recent survey stated that as many as two-thirds of ecig users were able to quit smoking cigarettes after making the switch, and many like the flavor options, too.

Ultimately, the decision to use ecigs is a personal one. Those who are interested in trying ecigs should research their options and look at differing opinions online. They can also talk to vapers about their experiences, too.
